How to measure a TV for a lift

The fit check needs six numbers. All six sit on the spec sheet of the TV maker's own product page, usually under a heading like Dimensions or Specifications. Use the figures for the TV without its stand.

1. Width without stand

   The full side-to-side size, frame included. This is the number each cabinet limits most tightly. Touchstone lists it as "inches wide left to right".

2. Height without stand

   Top edge to bottom edge, not counting the stand or feet. If the TV has a speaker bar or logo strip that hangs lower, it is part of this figure.

3. Depth without stand

   The thickest point of the back, often near the bottom where the electronics sit. Cabinet limits run from 3 in (Firgelli outdoor, product page) to 7 1/2 in (larger Touchstone cabinets).

4. Weight without stand

   Lift ratings in this guide range from 65 lb (Touchstone swivel lifts) to 175 lb (Whisper Lift PRO XL total load). Some ratings include the lid and any shelf on the lift, so check the note on the lift's own row.

5. VESA pattern

   The spacing of the four threaded holes on the back, written across then up and down, in millimeters, for example 300 x 300. Touchstone states its lift limits the same way: up to 400 mm across by 400 mm up and down on the SRV 2800 Pro, 600 by 400 on the SRV 3900 Pro.

6. Screen size

   Only used for the screen-size ranges some lift makers suggest, such as 32 to 60 in for the Progressive Automations TY-01.

When you do not have a spec sheet

Measure the TV itself with a tape, flat across the front for width and height. For the hole pattern, measure center to center between holes. Touchstone publishes its own measuring guide for its cabinets.

Space inside the cabinet for a self-built case

Touchstone's lift pages give the smallest cavity each lift needs. The width rule is the same on every one: TV width plus 1 in. Height and depth differ.

The cavity figures come from the lift product pages only (one document each). The pages add that cavity height must grow with taller TVs.
